The Community Service committee performs the important task of getting help for members and their families in time of need. If being there to assist when an emergency, natural disaster, or even just hard times strike is something you feel strongly about, then this is the committee to give your time and effort to. Some examples of community service activities include:
- Hurricane relief
- Organ donor awareness
- Food drives
- Blood Drives
- Support for laid off works
- and other issues that affect members and their families.

The Community Services Committee had several of it’s members volunteer to help with the Special Olympics-NC Fall Games that were hosted in High Point November 7th - 9th 2008. The events ranged from Soccer, Soccer Skills, Golf, Bocce, Cycling, and Roller Skating. This years Fall Games had teams and participants from all over North Carolina attending and taking part in the sporting events. There was plenty of action for everyone which provided hours of fun in the sun. Check out the Special Olympics North Carolina website for info on upcoming events, and keep an eye on the Local 5287 Calender for more planned Community Services activities.

Recently the members and family of the Community Services Committee in connection with Thomas Built Buses participated in a Walk to help raise money and awareness of Juvenile Diabetes. The event was hosted by the Piedmont Triad Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at High Point Central High School. The event consisted of a 4 mile walk which started a 9 am, and offered participants free pizza, ice cream, and drinks. In addition to this the High Point Central High band was on the main stage performing various music.
A big thank you goes out to those committee members and family, as well as to TBB for “Getting off the Bus” and walking for Juvenile Diabetes. More photos of this event can be found here: Juvenile Diabetes Walk
